TBG, NTS and TAG sign an agreement for sharing the first marketplace serving the new gas market
TBG (Transportadora Brasileira Gasoduto Bolivia-Brasil), NTS (Nova Transportadora do Sudeste) and TAG (Transportadora Associada de Gás) have signed up to a partnership for sharing the Capacity Booking Platform (POC), a digital tool aligned with the New Gas Law and the first marketplace serving this market.
This agreement between the carriers provides for joint administration, development, maintenance and operation of the digital platform, which enables parties from other segments of the natural gas chain to also participate in the marketplace. Every five years, one of the companies will take responsibility for the management, under a system of rotation. The first manager will be TBG.
In the opinion of TBG CEO Erick Portela, this ground breaking partnership with NTS and TAG represents a significant milestone for the sector, promoting important progress for the national gas market.
Erick says that, “The marketplace developed by TBG and launched in July/2020 is a very important instrument that creates a favourable free trade scenario. In this digital environment, the various market participants can form partnerships, as is being done by the carriers, aiming for new types of business to emerge through innovation. It is the shopping centre concept, in which companies from throughout the entire natural gas production chain can participate, offering their products and services in the same virtual location. And within this new scenario, the carriers, which are an important link in the sector, assume the role of protagonists. So, we have to be ready to meet the new demands of the market, at the speed at which they will arise and at an ever-increasing standard of requirements”.
According to NTS CEO Wong Loon, in addition to facilitating the purchasing of products by shippers, this unique portal may provide new features for the market.
Wong emphasizes that, “We understand that this unification will make the entire process of purchasing capacity more dynamic. Thanks to this connectivity with TBG and TAG, the coordinated calls to tender will become more simplified, with the same shipper acquiring entry and exit capacity from different companies. We expect to begin offering NTS products through the POC in the second half of this year”.
TAG CEO Gustavo Labanca, in turn, believes that, “in addition to facilitating the coordination and salience of the carriers' capacity offerings, the POC will help in the process of integrating areas of the market, which is essential to provide greater liquidity for commercial transactions and the consequent development of the natural gas chain in Brazil”. Labanca adds, “In 2021, we took important steps to expand the provision of transportation services to parties interested in accessing the system, one of which is the POC. Through this unique platform, we will be able to conduct Public Tendering procedures or even offer contracts in the extraordinary services format for our transport networks, all in a much more dynamic manner”.
About the POC
A pioneering instrument in the Brazilian gas market that offers the user a similar experience to that of the leading e-commerce platforms, supported by modern sophisticated software. With just a few clicks, one can register and enter into contracts for the products offered in the Transportation System that integrates the various supply sources: Brazilian production basins (onshore and offshore), Bolivia and LNG terminals, facilitating competition and channelling through a network of gas pipelines connecting states that account for more than 90% of Brazil’s industrial GDP.
