Following approval of the original text of Bill No. 4,476/20 by the Brazilian House of Representatives, on Wednesday (March 17th), which sets out the New Regulatory Framework for the Natural Gas Sector, representatives of the sector showed satisfaction and optimistic regarding the future of the domestic market over the years to come.

TBG CEO Érick Portela Pettendorfer considers the new law to be an important historical milestone for the natural gas industry, allowing the creation of an environment in which transporters, buyers and sellers have more flexibility in their relations and service formats can arise that are increasingly well suited to market needs and offering more competitive prices. He emphasizes that “The New Gas Law is favorable to free enterprise and provides legal security for the sector. That attracts investors, improving commercial relations and opening the door for new agents in the market”.

According to the TBG executive, with the flexibility enabled by a free enterprise scenario, the various market agents can set up partnerships, aimed at new types of business based on innovation. He adds, "It is the shopping center concept, where companies throughout the entire natural gas production chain can participate, offering their products and services in the same virtual space, for example".

In Pettendorfer’s view, faced with the new scenario that is coming about, the transporters, who are an important link in the natural gas production chain in Brazil, must be ready to meet the new needs of the market and match the speed at which they will arise. He points out that, “TBG anticipated the changes that are coming in the market and developed a number of products and services offering logistical solutions, such as the Capacity Offers Portal (a digital environment where the customer can order the desired transportation capacity); Short-Term Products, acquired in quarterly, monthly or daily format; Firm Contracts for Entry and Exit Capacity; Interruptible Products; and Pipeline Skills, through the TBG Business School, aimed at training professionals for the operation, maintenance and inspection of gas pipelines”.
