TBG strengthens strategic partnership with Fluxys during institutional mission to Belgium

Between October 1st and 3rd, a TBG delegation was in Belgium. The three days included meetings and technical visits to Fluxys, the Belgian operator of natural gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure, which is also paving the way for the transmission of hydrogen, biomethane, and other low-carbon fuels.

The institutional agenda aimed to strengthen the relationship between the companies, deepen knowledge about Fluxys' operations and strategy, and identify opportunities for mutual cooperation.

The TBG delegation was composed of Jorge Hijjar (President), Henrique Trinckquel (Financial Director), Tatiana Santos (Planning, Strategy and Pricing Manager), Rafael Perrone (New Business Manager), and Rafael Bandeira (Regulatory and Capacity Offer Consultant).

The program began at Fluxys' headquarters in Brussels, with a reception hosted by Arno Bux, Commercial Director and President of GIE Europe. The TBG executives participated in sessions on the organizational and operational structure of Fluxys Belgium, as well as strategic panels led by the company's senior leadership.

Also participating in the meeting were Sébastien Lahouste, CEO of Fluxys Brazil; Matthias Ivens, Vice President of Affiliates and Business Development of Fluxys Brazil; Silvio Albuquerque, Brazilian Ambassador to Belgium and the European Union; Pierre-Emmanuel De Bauw, Ambassador of the Belgian Federal Government; and Piet Demunter, CEO of Flanders Investment & Trade (FIT); as well as Sven Verstrepen, Science and Technology representative of FIT.

In the following days, the Brazilian delegation met with the Fluxys executive team: Pascal De Buck (CEO), Christian Leclerq (CFO), Peter Verhaeghe (Director of Affiliates), and Carole Lecomte (manager representing Leen Vanhamme, Director of Strategy and Sustainability), among other executives. The meetings addressed topics such as regulatory evolution, long-term business planning, financial strategies, and the ESG agenda, with a focus on possible synergies between TBG's environmental plans and Fluxys' sustainability priorities. The visit also included meetings with CREG (the Belgian Electricity and Gas Regulatory Commission) and ENTSOG (European Network of Transmission System Operators), who presented perspectives on market opening, biomethane integration, and security of supply – topics of great relevance to the Brazilian context of energy transition.

On the last day, there was a meeting with diplomatic representatives from Brazil and Belgium, including Jonathan de Assis Paz Braga, head of the Trade Promotion Sector (Secom) at the Brazilian Embassy in Belgium; Joren Kippers, representative of the Department of Economic Interests of the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Steven Van Caekenberghe, manager of the Zeebrugge LNG terminal.

Following this, the TBG delegation visited a section of works associated with the Multi-Molecule Pipeline Zeebrugge–Evergem project, one of the main gas hubs in Europe. The technical program was conducted by the terminal manager, who presented the history of the facility, safety protocols, and capacity expansion plans.

The visit also included representatives from ApexBrasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency), including Aloysio Nunes, Director of Strategic Affairs (former Minister of Foreign Affairs and former Minister of Justice); Alex Figueiredo, Director of Operations at ApexBrasil in Brussels; and Guarani de Morais, Investment Analyst.

According to Fluxys Brazil, during the visit, “the teams followed an agenda focused on energy infrastructure to strengthen ties between the Fluxys Group and TBG and explore how both transmission system operators can leverage their expertise to drive growth, innovation, and sustainability in a constantly evolving energy landscape.”

Also according to Fluxys, the significant connections created between Belgian and Brazilian colleagues and stakeholders were highlighted, reinforcing the shared commitment to cross-border collaboration, the company stated in a press release. For TBG, the visit represented an important step in strengthening the strategic dialogue with Fluxys, expanding mutual understanding of regulatory challenges, business opportunities, and cooperation on topics related to innovation, sustainability, and the expansion of gas and LNG infrastructure – pillars that underpin the company's commitment to the energy transition and the future of the sector.
