TBG participates in second day of Gas & Energy Week
On the second day of Gas & Energy Week, the Bolivia-Brazil gas pipeline operator TBG – one of the premium sponsors of the event’s fourth edition – took part in a panel discussion titled “Supply of Low-Carbon Products.” The previous day, TBG’s CEO, Jorge Hijjar, spoke on a panel called “Gas Supply,” stressing the Brazilian company’s position as a regional integrator across the Southern Cone region.
During the panel, who full title was “Supply of Low-Carbon Products: Prospects, Paths and Challenges for Expanding the Supply of Biogas, Biomethane and Hydrogen,” TBG’s new business manager, Rafael Perrone, emphasized the company’s projects to meet the demand for new energy sources, including its Biomethane Hub, and highlighted how prepared and aligned TBG is in relation to Brazil’s recently passed Future Fuels Law.
“TBG, which is one of the members of the Brazilian Biogas Association (Abiogás), is dedicated to creating solutions to inject more biomethane into the transportation system. Along the Bolivia-Brazil Gas Pipeline (Gasbol), there are more than 180 plants with a combined potential production volume of around 6 million cubic meters per day. For this reason, we have developed the Biomethane Hub and submitted a proposal for a biomethane connection contract, which the National Oil, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP) is currently reviewing. The Biomethane Hub is a project that seeks to connect producers. It can be shared among various players; it is flexible, as it can receive biomethane through a dedicated pipeline or trucks carrying compressed or liquefied natural gas; and it is phased, with capacity growing as more players join. The TBG pipeline is already designed to handle new supplies. Biomethane would thus be another new product to add to the company’s chain,” said Perrone.
The topics discussed by the panel’s participants included current regulatory challenges and market demands for expanding biogas and biomethane production; the Future Fuels Law and its impact on the sector; Petrobras’ public call for bids and the creation of a knowledge base for the biomethane market; strategic partnerships in the ethanol sector and the lessons they bring to the market; effective hydrogen projects and advances in their feasibility in Brazil; and how a potential supply shock in the natural gas sector could affect opportunities in the low-carbon market. In addition to Perrone, the speakers were Talyta Viana, Abiogás’ technical regulation coordinator; Fernanda Delgado, executive director of ABIHV; Guilherme Ricci, clean energy business director for Southern Latin America at White Martins; and Pedro Kool, Guofuhee’s CEO. The session was moderated by Gustavo DeMarchi, legal consultant at FGV Energy.
The fourth edition of Gas & Energy Week took place between August 5 and 7 at Prodigy Santos Dumont Hotel in Rio de Janeiro. This year, the event reaffirmed its commitment to the energy transition, positioning natural gas as a key fuel for a low-carbon future while discussing new sources such as biogas, biomethane and hydrogen.
