TBG and Delta Geração celebrate the first gas transport contract in the national market Daily modality

TBG and Delta Geração, of the Delta Energia Group, signed short-term contracts for natural gas transmission services on a daily basis. It is the first time that this type of service is provided in the national gas market. It is also the carrier's first short-term contract with an agent other than Petrobras.

TBG and Delta Geração, of the Delta Energia Group, signed short-term contracts for natural gas transmission services on a daily basis. It is the first time that this type of service is provided in the national gas market. It is also the carrier's first short-term contract with an agent other than Petrobras.

TBG is the only company in the sector in Brazil that offers gas transportation services on a quarterly, monthly and daily basis. The new contract modalities and other initiatives have been designed to contribute to expanding the natural gas transport market, in order to meet all possible demands.

The TBG gas transmission service now assures the natural gas supply required by the William Arjona plant, in Campo Grande (MS), the first thermoelectric plant in the country to use natural gas from  the Bolivia-Brazil Gas Pipeline. With a system that allows punctual activation, performed according to the system conditions, the plant be assured any gas demand up to 1.3 million cubic meters per day.

According to Jorge Hijjar, TBG’s Commercial Director, the contract with Delta Geração represents an advance for the market in the country. “The hiring of the Diary modality is unprecedented in Brazil and relevant for the gas sector, as it shows that the entry of new players is already a reality clearly fomenting greater competition while strengthening the business environment. This was only possible because TBG developed and submitted to the ANP for approval, a list of short-term products, as well as the innovative capacity offering portal and operating platforms (POC and PTG respectively), which allow markets agents the opportunity to make gas transport purchases in a timely manner enabling the service to be provided according to operating hours, including both the transmission system and the gas supply. This system makes it possible to plan all the necessary actions for next-day gas supply and transport services required by market players. So far, successive contracts in the order of 600,000 m³/day each have been signed and there is an expectation that the transmission service will continue to be provided.”

For Luiz Fernando Vianna, President of Delta Geração, the method of contracting Daily TBG transport services indicates the maturing of the Brazilian energy market, which has been advancing in terms of flexibility and freedom for all market agents. The President affirmed, “At a sensitive time when generators are called upon to support the electric energy system demands, the possibility of closing daily deals proves to be an asset”.

The contracts were made through the Capacity Booking Platform (POC), which is a digital environment that allows contracting short-term products and services from TBG on a quarterly, monthly and daily basis, and which can be accessed at: www.ofertadecapacidade.com.br.

Currently, the POC shows the available offers to interested shippers who may request the contracting of the capacity of one or more products, by entry point and/or exit zone, according to their interests.

More about Delta Geração - Delta Geração belongs to Grupo Delta Energia, one of the largest energy companies in the country, that entered the energy generation market with the acquisition of the William Arjona UTE, the first thermoelectric plant in the country to use natural gas from the Bolivia-Brazil Gas Pipeline. Inaugurated in 1999, the plant, located in Campo Grande (MS), had been inactive since 2017 and was reactivated in July 2021, after four years without operation.

The William Arjona UTE (thermoelectric plant), is a merchand plant, in other words: an electric energy generating plant that is activated if and when energy demands are needed according to the conditions of the Brazilian electric energy system, taking into consideration feasibility studies related to the costs/revenues for generation. With all the turbines in operation, it can consume up to 1.3 million cubic meters of natural gas per day.
