Regulatory agencies conduct technical visit to TBG headquarters

Representatives of regulatory agencies who are in Rio de Janeiro to participate in the 14th Brazilian Regulation Congress, which is being held by the Brazilian Association of Regulatory Agencies (ABAR), took the opportunity to conduct a technical visit to the Supervision and Control Center at TBG’s headquarters on Monday, November 24.

The meeting aimed to present the structure, systems and processes that support the operation of the Bolivia–Brazil Gas Pipeline, reflecting the company’s commitment to safety and reliability in service delivery.

During the visit, the participants—accompanied by TBG technical director Gustavo Elias, operations manager Sérgio Lacerda, operations coordinator Carlos Viana and regulatory analyst Andrewen Felipe—were able to observe firsthand the real-time mapping and monitoring of gas pipeline transportation, the technologies applied to operational activities, safety protocols and emergency response procedures.

The presentations delivered by the managers provided the visitors with an overview of the operation, demonstrating how the company’s integrated approach positions TBG as one of the leading players in Brazil’s energy infrastructure.

According to Vladimir Paschoal, commissioner at the Rio de Janeiro State Energy and Basic Sanitation Regulatory Agency (AGENERSA), the meeting was a valuable opportunity to broaden regulators’ understanding of the gas transportation chain.

“Most of the representatives present are state regulators responsible for distribution activities. However, it is important for them to understand how transportation works—its operation and control—so that we can increasingly contribute to improving the gas market in Brazil,” he said.

Rejane Schirr, economic regulation director at the Paraná State Regulatory Agency (AGEPAR), emphasized that the agenda was highly productive, as it provided an opportunity to answer questions, while bringing different segments of the sector closer together.

“We were very warmly welcomed, and we hope that TBG will be able to make further investments, which is what we are seeking,” she said.

Adalto Althaus, head of coordination at the same agency, added that the meeting also helped broaden regulators’ understanding of the impact of transportation on regional distribution. According to him, in addition to learning more about transport operators, the goal is to understand how this affects local piped gas distribution and to seek regulatory harmonization among state agencies.

“It is essential to understand the realities of transport operators and other market participants so that regulatory agencies can understand the challenges and find a balance that enables the sector’s development, which is what we all want for Brazil,” he said.

The following organizations took part in the visit: the National Oil, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP), the Paraná State Regulatory Agency (AGEPAR), the Rio de Janeiro State Energy and Basic Sanitation Regulatory Agency (AGENERSA), the Mato Grosso do Sul State Public Services Regulatory Agency (AGEMS), the Pará State Public Services Regulation and Control Agency (ARCON/PA) and the Brazilian Association of Natural Gas Pipeline Transportation Companies (ATGás).

The group’s presence at TBG reinforced dialogue between transport operators and regulators, promoting transparency, knowledge exchange and alignment on best practices in the energy sector.

The 14th Brazilian Regulation Congress is taking place at ExpoRio Cidade Nova from Wednesday to Friday (November 26 to 28). TBG will be present at the ATGás booth.
